2006 Events
The 2006 events schedule was very successful at St. Martin's. Below is a summary of what we got up to in 2006!
On the 5th February, a Charity Bridge Evening held jointly with Southend Hospital Pinpoint Cancer Appeal. The event was a great success and was a wonderful opportunity to work with the dedicated Pinpoint Cancer team and Southend Hospital.
We had an enjoyable Valentines Day celebration with entertainment provided by Diane Moore, activities and a special themed tea with each resident receiving a red rose and chocolates or jellies!
On the 23rd March we were visited by C & D Sounds and the residents enjoyed a musical extravaganza in which they participated with some wonderful instrument playing.
On the 6th April, Robert entertained us with some lovely singing and music.
On the 12th April five residents had a most enjoyable trip to the Cliff's Pavilion to see Beauty and the Beast. The show was spectacular with some wonderful costumes and the ice-creams in the interval went down very well!
Saul Watts entertained us with more music on the 2nd May, and the Care Standards inspector doing a routine visit that day was most impressed, as, indeed, were the residents!
On the 23rd May, we enjoyed a Classical Music Night with wine and cheese which was much appreciated by all who attended.
On Tuesday 6th June, the ever popular mobile museum visited and was enjoyed by all, as was the musical Bingo on the 21st June.
The jewellery party on the 4th July was very pleasant as we were able to enjoy the event in the cool evening air of the garden. Shopping doesn't get much better! There will be another chance to buy jewellery before Christmas; watch this space!
On the 19th July our Cockney afternoon went extremely well; look out for us in the Leigh Times! The pie 'n' mash and entertainment were wonderful and, by popular demand, we are hoping to make this a regular event.
The Cream Tea on 13th August was a great success with the wonderful Diana Moor providing top class entertainment. Similarly, the Beach Party on 27th August was very popular with Punch and Judy, balloons, home made pop corn and candy floss and other seaside delicacies such as honeycomb and rock. There was even an opportunity to build sandcastles, paddle and play hooplah! A great time was had by all who attended!
The Fundraising meal at Zen City with the Southend Priory Ladies' Circle was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food and company were excellent and the Ladies raised over £800 for St. Martin's. A huge thank you goes out to all who organised and supported this wonderful event.
The Halloween and Firework Party went off with a bang with a lovely display of fireworks and some thrilling costumes!
On 6th December The Eastwood Chorale Choir were back by popular demand and entertained us with a wonderful selection of music ranging from spirituals and old English songs through to a Broadway Medley and modern popular music!
Our Christmas Party and Raffle Draw were once again very popular with top quality entertainment from Ross Pinder who was also back by popular demand.
On Christmas Eve Father Christmas and his little reindeer helper visited and gave a present to each of the residents.
On Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day we enjoyed our extra special Christmas and New Year menus with lots of seasonal goodies to tempt us all!
